About Us

Todd Cartner

Co Owner & Chief Bat Nerd

Todd is a lifelong resident of northeast Ohio, growing up in a rural area where nature was his playground.  He received his education in engineering and computer science and worked as an engineer, college professor, and clinical research manager.  In 2023 he returned to his roots with a renewed energy and passion for Ohio’s bats. Collaborating with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Portage Parks District, he shifted his efforts to understand and promote these often misunderstood and little-known creatures.  Though he is very much in his element analyzing bat acoustic calls, his real passion is helping people develop a connection with the secretive and truly amazing members of Ohio’s night skies.

Ann Cartner

Co Owner & Education Coordinator

Ann grew up playing in nearby woods in southern Ohio and developed an early connection with nature. She is an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, former scout leader, and volunteers at the Native Pollinator exhibit at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. Ann fell in love with bats at a local park event where they were banding bats to check their health and abundance. Ever since, she has joined Todd in teaching and discovering where they live in Northeast Ohio, as well as during their travels.

Erin Cartner

Webmaster

Erin is very passionate about helping animals and the environment. She prefers staying at home blogging, making jewelry, or watching movies with her dog. However she’s been known to go out and ride horses or even, whether she will admit it or not, help Todd and Ann with transect surveys. You can visit her blog at lifeinspiredbydreams.com, but be warned. It has nothing to do with bats.
